Common Myths About Medical Couriers Debunked

Due to the growing popularity of medical couriers, they’ve become a hot business topic. Should you hire one? Invest in one? So many questions asked but few answered correctly. As a well-established medical courier, American Expediting understands that common assumptions about medical courier services are more often fiction rather than fact. This is due to many people offering advice about them without being associated with them. So, before you believe any of that, let’s discuss some common myths you’ve probably heard.

Philadelphia Courier Service

Expensive

It sounds easy to believe when you haven’t checked for yourself. However, the case is exactly the opposite. Using standard shipping services to transport packages of the medical category comes with a big price tag. This is due to the additional charges you pay for handling something that’s sensitive and delicate.

Urgent deliveries will have added charges that are unavoidable when it comes to using a regular shipping services. On the other hand, American Expediting offers proper handling at a low price. This is cost effective in the long run since you don’t have to invest in hiring your drivers, purchasing vehicles, or pay for equipment like coolers or dry ice.

Lengthy Waiting Periods

It may be expected to hear that delivering sensitive items like test samples and lab results can take longer to arrive. It’s surprising to know that it isn’t the case when it comes to hiring our medical couriers to make your deliveries. We offer same day on-demand delivery services and cater to small towns as well as large metropolitan areas. It may even come as a surprise that we function around the clock, providing services to our customers. So, whether it’s during working hours or midnight, rest assured that we’re available.

Inexperienced Drivers

A very common myth is that medical courier companies use inexperienced drivers to make deliveries. However, this is far from reality. We vet all our couriers before hiring. They must undergo background checks and drug testing before they are hired. Our drivers are also compliant with OSHA, HIPAA, DOT, TSA and other key regulatory agencies. They are also skilled, bonded, and insured.

Improper Handling

Despite it being obvious that there’s a clear distinction between medical couriers and the rest, there’s still a myth about package handling. We always use the appropriate equipment to transport materials. We have multi-compartment coolers to keep specimens at the appropriate temperature throughout transport.

No Emergency Coverage

Many people turn away from availing medical courier services due to being misinformed about emergency coverage policy and insurance. Take relief in the fact that this isn’t true and that a reliable insurance policy covers our medical courier services. Therefore, you can depend on us to deliver your packages safely.

There is no question that despite all the delicate handling and care, accidents can happen. When that happens, no need to worry about how the situation will be handled. Our drivers are trained to prepare for such a situation and take care of it.

Understanding the truth about medical couriers makes it clear why we have become such an integral part of medical deliveries nationwide. Why Same-Day Delivery is a Must When Choosing a Medical Courier

When choosing a medical courier, there are a variety of attributes that need to be considered; however, timeliness is one of the most crucial in the medical field. American Expediting has been serving the medical industry for close to 40 years, and we understand the important role that we play for so many pharmacies, hospitals, clinics, home infusion firms, blood banks, labs, and other life science centers every day. In this article, we wanted to discuss the importance of same day delivery when choosing a medical courier and how a company like American Expediting is the perfect choice.

Presently, it has become imperative for the medical industry to find ways to provide healthcare to its recipients quicker and more efficient than ever before. Improved equipment in ambulances and smarter tools to use on the field away from the hospital are only a small part of it. A further improvement is the incorporation of medical courier services. These companies vastly differ from regular couriers in the sense that they provide a variety of benefits to clients.

Whether it’s an unstable health condition or something more manageable like diabetes, doctors cannot rely on self-sourced deliveries for patient well-being. Because of this and the importance of the medications for the patient, the medical courier selected should have same day, on-demand, delivery options. Worsening health conditions can also be prevented if the patient can receive their prescriptions and medical equipment at home, without having to travel to doctor offices.

The sensitive nature of transported medical supplies and equipment make it imperative that they are delivered on the same day. However, no medical practitioner would want a speedy delivery at the cost of having it delivered unsafely and in improper condition. Medical couriers have excellent services that put this worry aside due to their careful handling and transportation of medical goods. They have temperature controlled equipment that allow for the delivery of temperature sensitive materials. These include oxygen tanks and donated organs, which must be stored at specific temperatures. This is especially true when it comes to transporting organs; speedy delivery is paramount to ensure a safe transplant procedure.

In other cases, recipients have busy schedules that do not allow for them to receive deliveries unexpectedly. When it comes to this, choose a medical courier that has an edge above the rest. Usually, courier services do not provide tracking features or an accurate, reliable time at which the package will arrive. This puts the recipient at a disadvantage as they would have to plan on how to receive the delivery in case it comes unexpectedly.

Other shipping services prove to be highly problematic when making same day delivery as they add extra charges. This unnecessary cost can be avoided by selecting a reliable medical courier service to make the delivery at a reasonable price instead. Medical couriers take up a responsibility to provide services efficiently while keeping in mind the safety precautions that are required. Clients should have peace of mind that even if packages are being delivered quickly, extreme care is taken to avoid any accidents. However, in the event of an accident, all couriers and agents are trained and experienced to tackle the situation and ensure they make the delivery.

Same day deliveries are highly important as they can directly affect the trust and rapport between healthcare providers and their recipients. This makes it essential for medical couriers to be able to make same-day deliveries when needed. In the medical industry, every task and procedure are subject to response-time. Therefore, it’s best to leave it up to a professional medical courier that offers the best response time and leave nothing to chance.

Deliveries to hospitals and clinics from blood banks is the most essential and on demand service that is utilized by our customers. The following is a story that happens all the time. This is why we do what we do.

“October 17, 2013 did not go as anyone had pictured it. It started as a day filled with anticipation and excitement as I was admitted to the labor and delivery floor to have our first child – a baby girl we named Georgia. It was the day after my due date, so she was actually quite punctual. After a pretty easy labor and a smooth delivery of our 8 pound, 8 ounce healthy baby girl, I began feeling ill. The medical staff equated it with a drop in my blood pressure and tilted my bed back to make me feel better, which worked initially. I had lost more blood than normal during the delivery, and it still seemed like there was something wrong.  My doctor told me that I was continuing to bleed and she couldn’t see where it was coming from, so we needed to go to the operating room (OR) to get a better look.

I ended up developing a very rare condition called disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) that kept my blood from clotting normally. DIC has a high mortality rate and is difficult to control. I lost over three liters of my own blood and was in the OR for more than 3 intense hours while numerous physicians, CRNAs, nurses and technicians worked to stop my bleeding.  I received 12 units of blood, 6 units of fresh frozen plasma, and 2 units of platelets before I finally became stable and the bleeding was controlled. What had started as a happy, exciting day had ended in a roller coaster of emotions as my family waited to hear good news about my condition. The next morning I woke up intubated in the critical care unit where I stayed for two days before being able to move back to the labor and delivery floor with my husband and new baby girl. We stayed a total of 5 days in the hospital before we finally brought our little girl home with grateful hearts for the miracle that took place in our lives.

A few weeks after going home from the hospital I had the opportunity, along with my husband Todd and our daughter, to meet some employees from Arkansas Blood Institute. I was able to thank them and to let them see, first hand, the benefits and changed lives that resulted from the work that they do every day. It was a humbling experience to say the least.

Unfortunately, I have to say that I’ve never donated blood in the past; however, Arkansas Blood Institute has gained a lifelong blood donor after my experience. If it wasn’t for blood, plasma and platelet donors, the skilled medical staff wouldn’t have had the resources they needed to save my life and my Georgia would’ve grown up without her mother. I cannot express the extent to which blood donors have affected our family’s life. They kept our world from falling apart that day. Without them, I wouldn’t be enjoying the blessing of becoming a mother to a healthy, happy little girl.  Donating blood is such an easy way that each one of us can give back and change the lives of not only recipients but their loved ones as well. My daughter gets to know her mommy in part because a dozen people decided to donate blood.”

There are stories like this coming in from all over the country because of the work of hospital staff and the dedicated courier services tasked with stat transportation. We will continue to provide this valuable service and take pride in what we do.
